Structural Engineering

This project involved the addition of two floors of office accommodation to an existing six storey plus basement concrete framed building. The steel frame supported a cold rolled joist floor structure. The vertical elements of the steel frame were left exposed. Additional columns were added below the roof level to provide adequate support to the new structure. Lateral stability was predominantly provided by a moment frame to maintain the architectural concept of the space with full height glazing with braced bays only positioned in the solid external gable walls.
